Macro settings

Here are a few shots that I took using my macro lens. I then played around a little with color effects. It's on shots like these that I wish I had super steady hands and just a slightly higher pixel count camera.

Color and Texture

Recently I had a little time to explore the colors and textures found at the beach. These are my three favorite photos - I find the intensity of color in the seaweed very exciting and appealing. While the rockpool is calm and serene. I find the final photo intriguing - the layers and colors of the rock that are divided by a thin narrow crack that could almost lead to a magical world.

Beauty

While I definitely prefer my moody black and white photos every now and again you come upon something that just has to be shot in color for you to appreciate the true beauty that we are blessed with on this earth.

This butterfly was shot in Balboa Park, San Diego in May 2010.

Coolmain Beach

Taken on a very cold day in December 2009 on Coolmain Beach in County Cork, Ireland. I liked the linear lines of the waves and the breakwater in contrast to the gentle curve of the land.

Welcome home

This photo to me evokes mixed emotions. To me it represents our final steps,  the fear and excitement of what may greet us at the end of our lives. The posts in the ground act as a guide drawing you down the path to what is to come. They are dark and a little foreboding but ultimately as you travel past the posts there is a bright cloud welcoming you. A sign of hope, comfort and safety.

This photo was taken at Byxbee Park, Palo Alto in May 2010.

The Beginnings...

For a long time I have had an interest in photography. As a young adult I fell in love with the photography of Giles Norman, an exceptional photograper from my home town of Kinsale, Ireland. Finally in my thirties I find the need to create a hobby that combines my wish to develop my photography skills and a need to carve a little me time into my life. So here begins yet another photoblog from yet another amateur photographer. I hope that you enjoy my images and my journey towards (hopefully) becoming a fraction of the amazing photographer that was my inspiration.
